Like Scorpio, Aquarius first shared its ruler Saturn with Capricorn and then when Uranus was discovered a change was made. Still you can't cast off planets so easily and those born in the first week of Aquarius do tend to have more saturnine qualities then the planet of unexpected happenings.
Aquarius can be a difficult sign to understand. They are generally friendly to everyone. Even their enemy is their friend! This is an abstract friendship because true one-to-one relationships frighten them. They can actually act as if they dislike you when they are getting close to seeing you more than just a casual friend. In fact, they may break off the relationship altogether if they feel they cannot give you the kind of attention or love they feel you need. Notice it is not what you think but what they perceive that counts.
They like to help people but not on an individual basis but more as a group. For instance, they will support causes such as freedom of speech and anything they think is wrong. Seeing the bigger picture works for them as it leaves less time for intimate relationships. This not to say that they don't get involved - they do. When they find someone who intrigues them mentally and who is as hard to understand as they are, then they can fall hard. Aquarius will often test new relationships to see how their partner reacts. Remember they are all about freedom and a clinging vine will make them run a mile. More difficult is their tendency to "help a friend" nature. Don't be surprised if they go out for some milk and then phone to say they met someone who needs help moving. They may never have met them before but they obviously need help.
Even though some Aquarius have a tendency to be more introverted thanks to Saturn's influence that doesn't mean they are easier to understand or that they have more earthly tendencies. They just are more quiet and can get a little morose at times. However they can be just as quirky and some would say unreliable as their more Uranian cousins.
